To Keep Raindrops from Falling on Our Heads!

July 19, 2014

We finally are getting the roof on.  The sump pump is underneath, and the scuppers are up and connected to the roof drains.  Now we are cutting doors and windows and digging a 2 ' trench in front of Mom's porch for the power line…in very hard dirt, I might add.  Today they are putting the electrical underneath in the crawl space.
Thankfully, Angelina, Gene, Tara, Emily and Jacob arrived from Tennessee on a 3 week cross country trip before school starts for them in Aug.  We had a few wonderful days at Zions Park, Tuacahn (seeing The Wizard of Oz) and just visiting before they headed on north to continue to visit family and friends.

They are doing something fun…visiting every LDS temple on their route.  The St. George temple was #6 on the list.

On the right is a sightseeing tram at Zions.  We hiked the trail to the beginning of the Zions narrows.

They had a flash flood right after we left!

                                                           How Firm a Foundation

Well, today "Inspector Gadget" finally came to inspect the foundation and we passed with flying colors.  He will be our inspector for the whole project, and we are glad.  He is a young man (everyone is younger than we are) and is interested in what we are doing.  Hooray!

While we were waiting, we made a trip to Logan to sing with the American Festival Chorus for the July 4th Program in the stadium.  It was lots of fun seeing our friends and dear family.  (Except for Loralee falling backwards off the stage…)

After the performance we spent the next couple of days with family.  We had a family birthday party for Joe and spent the evening of the 4th up in Hyrum at James and Brandi's old home watching fireworks.  Such fun!  Baby Jackson is growing and doing well.  He likes fireworks!

We are really looking forward to the 24th when Angelina and her family come from Tennessee for a few days.  We hope we can show her some progress!
So, tomorrow our dirt man shows up to move dirt next to the foundation, and our construction guys show up to do the first wall.  Between the monsoon moisture and the over 100 degree heat, we hope to make some progress.  Thank goodness for air conditioning and my sweet brother, Joe, who is letting us stay in his condo until the house is done.

So…the big truck finally showed up with our whole house trusses.  He used his crane to put up the back wall and then it took lots of people to guide each truss into the proper brace.  The plywood was then put up on the sides and today the floor was finished.  (July 18)
